Shady Mavis Trio

Shady Mavis is Don Gammie, Elaine Somerfield and John Whittington. They are an acoustic trio that plays a variety of tasty tunes, from the rootsy side to folk, country and bluegrass. We truly enjoy what we are doing and are focused on combining sweet vocal harmonies with the genuine love for playing music.

Don is a recording artist originally from Lucknow, Ontario, but has called Edmonton, Alberta, home since 1994.  Don plays guitar and mandolin, coupled with his distinctive, soulful voice. Don has recorded two full length CDs.

Elaine Somerfield is a graduate of the Grant McEwan music program, and is a seasoned veteran of the road, having spent the last 35+ years in bands and various musical projects from Ontario to British Columbia. In addition to her vocal talents, she is a multi-instrumentalist and can play piano, keyboards, accordion, flute, various other wind instruments, lap snare, saxophone etc.

John Whittington is an Alberta based guitar, mandolin and dobro player and has also played in rock and R & B bands for the past 30+ years.

Shady Mavis trio was formed about 4 years ago and have been receiving great response to their music. They have played a number of private functions and clubs throughout Alberta, as well as several music festivals. Together, Elaine, John and Don combine their musicianship and powerful voices to entertain audiences with soaring vocal harmonies as they put their acoustic twist on a variety of songs you know, forgot you knew, or have maybe never heard!
